There has been an attempted burglary on Bawtree Close on the 7th May during the early hours of the morning. A thief attempted to gain entry to the victims property by trying to force open the door using a tool. The burglar failed to get into the house, and the first the homeowner knew about it was when they viewed their doorbell footage after waking up. The suspect was wearing a motorcycle helmet and mask.
Bawtree Close saw a spate of burglaries during early 2025 happening within a number of days of each other. We would therefor like to make residents aware as sometimes thieves can target an area before moving on elsewhere. Can we remind residents to make sure that burglar alarms are activated, even at nigh time if you have zones set. Make sure your windows and doors are securely locked, any valuable or sentimental jewellery is locked in a safe, or put away somewhere. Make sure car keys aren't left in the hallway, this is where thieves expect to find them. If possible keep them in a keysafe, or take them upstairs when you go to bed.
We have also had a report of a suspect trying car door handles late in the evening/early morning on Fennel Court/Brachlin Mews, just off Station Road. These types of thieves are generally fuelling a drug habit, and will normally take loose change, or whatever they find in the vehicle. Please make sure your car is securely locked when you leave it, and don't leave anything on display.
PCSO Walker attended The Shanklin Village AGM yesterday 11th May 2026 to discuss with local residents crime on Belmont ward, and in particular issues affecting the estate directly. The event was well attended, with many questions from those attending.
